about

This project was recorded 20 Years ago. 2001 was a major year for many people. Many people were at major crossroads in their lives. 911 happened. This project was secretly recorded in XM Satellite's Studio after hours. The Producer of the record Kyle Murdock was a day time producer for them...

This project features many early versions of artist who grew to become household names. Until 2001 Raheem Devaughn had recorded many demos and works in progress for many other artist. W.Ellington Felton convinced him to start recording music independently in between his Mainstream Pursuit. This is the first time he was heard on a recording publicly. Malcolm Jamal Warner and W.Ellington became friends during the 2000 National Black Theatre Festival. After returning from that festival W. Ellington Felton started recording "Soul Sonnets" and Malcolm agreed to contribute. Dub Ell's friend and mentor Prince Paul even makes a cameo reading Original Sonnets written by W.Ellington. In the Conclusion of this project filled with many Unsung and Legendary artist a young Chadwick Boseman concludes the project alongside his H.U. classmate and muse Liberty as the final song.

Returning from Carnegie Mellon the Howard University Theatre Department embraced me as one of their own. So collaborating with Kyle Murdock a H.U. Alum was very natural and familiar. BLACK EXCELLENCE.
As we worked on this project we would grow to discover that his Uncle Melvin Lindsay and my father Hilton Felton were good friends. I told him "Just put the beats on CD's and I will write the songs". He trusted the process while risking his job.....

Here is the ORIGINAL VERSION of the LP

Kyle and I will be working on Re-Produced and Recorded 20 Year Anniversary Edition to release in the Fall. Stay Tuned...
